Who We Are (ShoesAdviser.com)
We’re a shoe review and buyer guide site with one job: help you find the right pair without wasting your time or money. Not the flashiest pair. Not the most expensive one. The right one for you specifically.
Whether you’re hunting for a reliable everyday sneaker, a solid pair of work boots, or something you can actually run a 5K in without your knees hating you afterward, we’ve probably written about it. And if we haven’t yet, we will.
How This Site Got Started
ShoesAdviser launched in April 2026, but the frustration behind it goes back much further than that.
For years, Jason Merrill, the guy who founded this site, kept running into the same problem every time he tried to research shoes online. The reviews were either too vague to mean anything, or they read like the writer had never actually worn the shoe. A lot of it was clearly just written to get a click and collect a commission, with zero real thought put into whether the shoe was actually good.
Jason figured there had to be a better way to do this. So he built it himself.
A Bit About Jason
Jason has been obsessing over footwear for well over a decade. What started as him just really caring about wearing the right shoes turned into something much deeper.
He’s tested and worn hundreds of pairs across almost every category you can think of, from budget sneakers to high-end leather dress shoes to trail runners that get genuinely abused outdoors.
He’s the kind of person who will notice that a shoe’s heel collar is slightly too stiff two weeks into wearing it, or that the insole starts breaking down faster than it should for what you paid. That attention to detail is what drives everything published on this site.
What You’ll Find Here
Two things, mostly.
- Buyer guides that actually guide you. Not just a list of shoes with Amazon links slapped underneath. Real breakdowns of what to look for in a category, who each type of shoe is best for, and which specific picks we genuinely stand behind and why.
- Product reviews that tell you the full story. The good, the bad, the “this is great but only if your feet are wide” kind of detail that actually matters when you’re about to spend real money.
Everything here is written with the US market in mind because sizing, availability, and pricing all vary depending on where you are, and we want our content to be genuinely useful to you, not just technically correct.
How We Actually Review Things
We do not just look at a product page and write five hundred words about it. That’s not reviewing, that’s copying.
Before anything gets published here, there’s real research involved. We look at how the shoe is built, what materials went into it, how it holds up over time based on real user feedback, and whether the price actually makes sense for what you’re getting. When we can get our hands on a pair directly, we wear them. Properly. Not just around the living room for twenty minutes.
We also call out problems. If a shoe runs small, we say it. If the grip is great but the cushioning is mediocre, we say that too. No burying the bad stuff in paragraph seven where nobody reads it.
Why We Think You’ll Like It Here
Honestly, we’re not for everyone. If you want a site that praises every shoe it covers and never met a product it didn’t love, there are plenty of those around.
But if you want someone to give you a straight answer, help you understand what actually separates a good shoe from an average one, and point you toward something that fits your budget and your actual lifestyle rather than just your wishlist, then you’re in the right place.
We cover all price ranges too, because not everyone wants to spend $250 on sneakers, and that’s completely fine. A $75 pair that genuinely fits well and holds up beats a $200 pair that looks great in photos any day of the week.
One More Thing Worth Mentioning
Like most content sites, we use affiliate links. That means if you buy something through a link on this site, we might earn a small commission from the retailer. It does not cost you anything extra, and it does not change what we recommend. We have turned down sponsored content that required us to be positive about products we weren’t actually positive about. That is not the kind of site we want to run.
